I am such a BAD MOM! It was confirmed by Chris and Nixon. Long story short... I was making dinner and left a can out that I had used a can opener on. I did not remove the lid!!!! The kids weren't in the kitchen and I was trying to finish making dinner. Then the kids came in the kitchen and I wasn't really paying attention to them. I hear Maddy, cry, turn around, and see her finger is caught in the lid and can and say," Maddy don't!!!!" She pulled her finger out and sliced it. There was blood everywhere. I freaked out. She was screaming. Nixon was staring with his mouth open. Luckily Chris was almost home. As soon as he got home, we went to the ER where they decided to GLUE her finger back together. The doctor thought with her being so young stitches might not work so well. Well, the doctor even called us at home the next day to see if she was okay. By the end of the next day, her finger was dripping blood, the glue was gone, and the band aid was totally off. She was WAY too active for glue. She was in pain, but it didn't stop her. We took her back to the ER and they said there was nothing they could do now because it would present too much risk of infection. So we have to try to keep her finger together and try to keep the band aids on. It's horrible!!! SO NIXON SAYS TO ME THE VERY NEXT DAY, AND WE WEREN'T EVEN TALKING ABOUT IT, "MOMMY WHEN I'M A DADDY I WON'T EVER LEAVE A CAN ON THE COUNTER FOR MADDY TO CUT HERSELF ON." I said to Chris," Is Maddy just prone to accidents or am I a bad mom?" He said, "You're a bad mom." I don't find his sense of humor too amusing at this point. I feel like a bad mom.
Okay, so I have taken Maddy to the doctor more in her short 21 months of life than I can really count. Here are the ones I remember:
1)Pneumonia at 7 months
2) broken wrist at 13 months
3) 2 double ear infections
4) spranged ankle from trampoline (didn't walk for 1 1/2 - had x-rays)
5) ER twice
6) not to mention all the other times I have taken her for coughs and colds
NIXON: in his short 4 years has been to the doctor for normal checkups, a case of pneumonia, and an ear infection.
ONE DAY BEFORE HER SLICED FINGER: Chris is in the same room as her and we have the window open (luckily on the first floor). She is standing on the window seat. Nixon runs into the kitchen and tells me to come, and I tell him I am too busy at the moment. Chris, for some reason (he's on the computer) hears nothing. Then we hear some cries for "MAMA!" I rush into the room Chris is and Maddy is no where to be found and the screen of our window has popped out. She had pushed the screen out and fell through the window onto the prickliest bushes we have. We saw her pull herself out of the bushes and she was crying and running to the front door. She has scrapes all over her legs and arms. I even had to pull slugs and dead bugs out of her hair.
WITH MADDY YOU HAVE TO ELIMINATE ALL POSSIBILITIES! You turn your back for one second and she is into something.
Okay, now about what a WONDERFUL Dad Chris is. Nixon was begging us nonstop for Wolverine claws and so WONDERFUL Daddy made Nixon claws out of card board, duct tape, and his biking gloves. Nixon takes them everywhere, doctors' offices (numerous times in the past few weeks) , and even sleeps with them. WONDERFUL Daddy even made Nixon some X-Men Cyclops glasses out of card board. Nixon didn't think those were as cool, but the Wolverine claws rock.
Yes, weird picture of me above. I got my hair cut SOOOO short. It is the shortest it has ever been, and I think I am going to start growing it out today. It is way too short for my liking. I feel like I look like a boy.
We also went to the aquarium with my sister. We had a lot of fun playing on the beach and seeing all the fish. It was REALLY windy. The kids were so sandy. Maddy had it stuck all over her face. But they still loved it.
Maddy and Nixon went crazy over the fish. They loved the shark tunnel. And those huge crabs below are a bit scary!
WINDY WINDY WINDY!
We found Maddy and Nixon walking around in our shoes. We actually had to get Nixon out of the high heels. He wanted to get in them as soon as he saw Maddy clunking along in them.
